Coffee has been a front line in the DEI fight: in February 2025, Missouri's attorney general sued Starbucks, alleging the chain's diversity hiring goals and DEI-linked executive bonuses violated anti-discrimination law — claims that remain allegations. In November 2025 its baristas' union called a nationwide strike and consumer boycott. When the biggest name in the category is this entangled in activism and litigation, values-first shoppers have good reason to ask who actually roasts their beans.
