As the fourth largest health insurance provider in the U.S., Humana is one of the biggest names in healthcare. Lately, its involvement in progressive causes has been grabbing headlines, a feat not uncommon for companies in recent times.  

Financial Contributions to Progressive Causes

The Humana Foundation ensures seniors, veterans, and school-aged children live connected, healthy lives by removing unnecessary barriers in healthcare. They tackle the social determinants of health and support racial and economic justice initiatives to create long-lasting community change, channeling their funds into these issues.

To add some weight to this, a University of Louisville study found that Humana has significantly impacted Kentucky’s economy, and guess what? A big chunk of that impact was aimed at supporting progressive goals like health equity. And then there’s the American Democracy Scorecard, which shows Humana playing an active role in backing political causes that lean left.

While I couldn’t find specifics about Humana’s mandatory training on unconscious bias or critical race theory, its dedication to DEI shows a commitment to these values.

Humana scored high marks on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index for 2023, a top score that highlights its commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion and equality in the workplace. 

Their ‘welathumana’ program goes all out during Pride Month to foster a culture of inclusion and encourage employees to bring their authentic selves to work. They’ve got events, social media posts, and all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a brand eager to prove they’re on the “right side of history.”
