What They Do

Arcadia Academy is a restored historic property in Arcadia, Missouri, operating as a bed and breakfast, an events and wedding venue, and a restaurant called Thee Abbey Kitchen serving American home-cooked fare. The buildings themselves are the draw: the original Academy was built in 1846 as a Methodist high school by Jerome C. Berryman, served as a Union hospital from 1861 to 1863, was purchased by the Ursuline nuns in 1877 and run as a girls' school until the last graduating class in 1970, then served as a convent until the nuns relocated to St. Louis in 1985. The property is on the historic register as a historic district.

The current owners describe themselves on the site: "We are a family of eight that lived together in California for over 30 years. Together, we purchased the Arcadia Academy and existing businesses in March, 2023." They add that the family is "rooted deeply in Law Enforcement. From Department of Corrections, to Detective, to Crime Scene Forensics, to Criminal Records, to Dispatch." Guest rooms have private baths and custom tub/showers, and the former college rooms now host murder mystery dinner theater, community theater, comedians, music performances, festivals and car shows.

Why There's No Political Footprint Here

Arcadia Academy has no ESG report, no DEI program, no HRC rating, and no corporate PAC. That is not a position the family took. It is what an eight-person family business running a historic inn is.

Corporate political activity is a function of scale — investor relations departments, diversity offices with budgets, compliance staff, government affairs shops paying lobbyists. Those exist inside companies with thousands of employees and a stock ticker. A restored academy with guest rooms, a kitchen, and a weekend event calendar has none of that machinery.

What We Checked

We reviewed the property's public website and searched for federal campaign contributions, lobbying filings, HRC Corporate Equality Index participation, and corporate advocacy. We found none, which is the expected result at this size.

We make no claim about the owners' personal politics — we don't know them, and it isn't our business. What we can tell you is that your money isn't funding anything.

The Bottom Line

A night in the bed and breakfast or a meal at Thee Abbey Kitchen pays a family of eight who bought a 180-year-old building in rural Missouri and are putting it back together. No political apparatus sits between you and them.
