Hollywood just handed the internet a 320,200-view argument and almost nobody asked the only consumer question that matters: what does the studio actually score? Paramount Global is still a 20/100 on the BuyWokeFree card — mildly woke, and sitting in content review — after TheWrap's Mark Ruffalo merger item pulled 320.2K views and 329 likes on Boycott Tracker. That is a politics story first. The checkout is the subscription you renew next month.
This is not a cereal aisle. If you want a cart fight, this week's #PSBlackout on Sony (80/100, published) is the live product boycott through August 30. Today's heat is entertainment politics. We are scoring it because the same households also pay for Paramount+, Disney+, Netflix, and Max.
What actually happened
As reported by Variety on August 21, 2026, Paramount Skydance slammed actor Mark Ruffalo after he attacked the Ellison family's proposed combination with Warner Bros. Discovery — a deal outlets have described as a $111 billion merger — and tied Oracle's work with the Israeli military to the war in Gaza. A Paramount spokesperson said the company was "troubled when antisemitic tropes are invoked in purported service of a business dispute," and rejected words like "genocide" and "apartheid" applied to a corporate transaction.
Ruffalo fired back. The Guardian and NBC News both carried Saturday statements in which he called the antisemitism charge "appalling and fundamentally dishonest," arguing that criticizing the Israeli prime minister, a military technology contract, or the executives who supply it is not the same as criticizing Jewish people. Jewish organizations did not treat that as the last word. The Simon Wiesenthal Center's Jim Berk praised Paramount for "refusing to allow prejudice to masquerade as political or corporate criticism." Creative Community for Peace's Ari Ingel accused Ruffalo of fusing hostility toward Israel with "Jewish-associated wealth, media ownership, [and] oligarchic power." ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt called the posts "cynical and sickening," as reported by The Forward and NBC News.
That is the receipt pile. We are not litigating the merger in this post. We are scoring the companies you can cancel.
Paramount's 20 is not a halo
Shoppers reading "studio rebukes Hollywood activist" will be tempted to crown Paramount a conservative win. The scorecard does not. Paramount Global's 20/100 is a post-rollback number: ESG reporting still counts (+10), a February 2025 DEI drop zeros that pillar, Pride sponsorships and HRC participation dropped with the rollback, and a left-leaning Hollywood media environment still adds (+10). Mildly woke. Not a zero. Not published-clean — the row is content review, so treat the 20 as live but not fully locked.
A 20 beats almost every household streamer we score. It does not mean the library suddenly became a church picnic. It means the official DEI, Pride, and HRC stack got cut. Process changed. Taste is a different argument, and we do not invent a "woke catalog" score we cannot audit from filings and sponsorships.
Keep the status note in view. Several names in this story are still in content review: Paramount, Netflix, and Warner Bros. Discovery. When a score is in review we quote it anyway and say so, the same way we flag L'Oréal's 90 while it still staffs a chief DEI officer. The integer is the claim. The review tag is the confidence.
The streaming scoreboard you can actually cancel
If the Ruffalo clip is what put entertainment in your feed, here is the card next to the remote — not a vibe, the integer from the database.
- Netflix — 95/100, extremely woke, content review. Creative-equity money and representation partnerships. Highest scored streamer in this set.
- Walt Disney — 80/100, extremely woke, published. ESG reports, the old Reimagine Tomorrow machine, a long HRC CEI 100 streak, global Pride. Disney+ is not a neutral pipe.
- Sony — 80/100, extremely woke, published. Conglomerate DEI and Pride across divisions. Also the parent on this week's disc-ownership boycott.
- Comcast — 57/100, woke, published. Peacock's parent sits mid-pack, not a refuge.
- Warner Bros. Discovery — 55/100, woke, content review. Strong DEI history, then a February 2025 scale-back. Still not a low score. This is the other side of the $111 billion fight.
- Paramount Global — 20/100, mildly woke, content review. Lowest scored major in this ladder after the 2025 rollback.
That is the non-woke streaming media contrast in one paragraph: Netflix 95, Disney 80, Warner Bros. Discovery 55, Paramount 20. Nobody in this set is a published zero. If you want non-woke entertainment brands with a straight face, you are shopping the 20, not the 95 — and you are still renting Hollywood.
What this does — and does not — tell shoppers
Radar's 7-day volumes this morning were not subtle: Woke Pulse at 1 million, DEI Watch at 543.6K, Boycott Tracker at 234.8K. The Ruffalo and Paramount item is Boycott Tracker's surprise high-view entertainment-politics hit, not a verified dual-flank grocery boycott. There is no receipt here that Paramount+ lost a documented sales quarter over this weekend. There is a receipt that three Jewish groups publicly sided with the studio's line, and a receipt that our database already had Paramount at 20 before the clip went nuclear.
Do not confuse a press statement with a merchandising change. Language moves faster than SKUs. Same rule as LinkedIn users stripping "DEI" off résumés while Microsoft stays a perfect 100/100 and LinkedIn itself sits at 80. The thesaurus updated. The checkout often did not.
Also do not launder a rumor into this post. An alleged secret Facebook group at a steakhouse pulled 71.7K views this week and remains an evidence-free pile-on. We will not do that to Paramount either. The documented fight is the merger rhetoric, attributed to named outlets. The documented score is 20.
How to use the 20
If you were already canceling Netflix on content grounds, the 95 is your exhibit A — and it was 95 before Ruffalo posted. If you keep Disney+ for the kids' queue, you are paying an 80. If the Ellison fight makes you curious about Paramount+, you are not "going conservative." You are stepping from a 95 or an 80 down to a 20. That is a real move on our six-criteria card. It is not a purity badge, and it is not a boycott receipt.
Pair the studio math with the rest of Tuesday's heat only where the brands exist in the database. Sony 80 is the live ownership story through August 30. Target still sits at 71 as a left residual, not a verified both-sides Crossfire today. When you want a grocery closer, use the published zeros — not a Hollywood press war. None of those facts change because an actor and a studio spent the weekend on X.
Bottom line: quote the 320.2K if you need a hook. Shop the integers. Paramount Global 20. Disney 80. Netflix 95. Warner Bros. Discovery 55. Sony 80. Renew the one you can defend — or cancel the stack and go outside.
