Electronic Arts vs Nintendo: Which Is Less Woke?

319.6K views, and the scores were already filed

Sunday's games card is a boycott call with a receipt, plus a bigger post that is not the receipt. IGN, dated Oct 23, says fans are calling for a boycott of all EA products, that BioWare is closing, and that the next Mass Effect is canceled. That card reads 1,349 replies, 1,511 reposts, 11.5K likes, and 319.6K views. A separate post from Libs of TikTok, dated Oct 22, is the view king: 780 replies, 1,725 reposts, 26.4K likes, 954.5K views. It states the studio shut down and adds a culture claim. The culture line is the poster's. This piece does not adopt it. The number to shop with is the IGN card, set next to scores that were already published.

BioWare is not a separate row. There is no BioWare score to print. The company on the card is Electronic Arts, and the published score is 80, extremely woke. Mangalawyer says IGN is twisting reality and cuts off at "Meanwhile, the actual boycott." That sentence stays cut off. This is not a ruling on who is right.

The pair on the shelf

If the mood is a catalog boycott, the shopping question is which household name is less woke. Electronic Arts is 80. Nintendo of America is 45, and the label on that 45 is still woke. PlayStation is 90. Xbox is 80. Moving from the publisher in the headline to the consoles under the TV does not clean the shelf. The Non-Woke Video Games Brands page is where those rows live. None of these scores moved because a post cleared 300,000 views. Viral cards change the conversation. They do not rewrite the criteria.

What carries the 80

Electronic Arts lands in extremely woke on a record, not a mood. The weight is the Human Rights Campaign's 2026 Corporate Equality Index: a perfect 100 and the Equality 100 Award. Fortune 500 participation in that index collapsed 65% in 2026, from 377 companies to 131. EA stayed and scored perfectly. Investor language went the other way. The FY24 report, filed May 2024, swapped a commitment to integrating diversity, equity and inclusion for "embedding inclusion." Later reports take the word diversity to zero and delete the Workforce Representation section. The FY25 Impact Report, out in August 2025, stripped that material. The programs did not leave with the words. A Maxis studio page is still titled "Diversity, equity, and inclusion" and still references an active DEI Council. Seven employee resource groups remain listed, including PRIDE. The executive page still assigns Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to the Chief People Officer. The scrub started in May 2024, before the wider 2025 retreat. The profile treats it as a disclosure change.

On the products, The Sims shipped a free Pride content drop in April 2025, with trans, lesbian, gay, non-binary, genderqueer, and asexual flags. Apex Legends keeps an LGBTQ+ roster. Its Pride badges have been permanently available since 2021, so those badges are not a fresh campaign. The profile found no EA corporate Pride articles for 2025 or 2026. That article run stops after 2024. In January 2026 the Maxis studio publicly reaffirmed that its values, including inclusivity, were unchanged.

Politics is not a pardon. The profile records no corporate PAC. A direct FEC query in that write-up returns zero committees. No federal lobbying since 2010. Associated contributions in the 2024 cycle were $120,583, personal money from employees, not company funds. The profile declines a partisan split because it could not verify one.

What the 45 is made of

Nintendo of America is the one of these two with a stored six-criteria breakdown. The shape matters more than the headline number.

  • ESG is 10. An annual CSR report, plus a standing environment subcommittee at Nintendo Europe.
  • DEI is 10. Six employee resource groups, a Disrupting Everyday Bias course, and a March 2021 Partnership System at the Japanese parent that gives same-sex domestic partners the same benefits as married employees.
  • Pride is 25. Official sponsor of the Seattle Pride Parade in years including 2024, with a Play it Proud employee contingent, plus an internal Rainbow group. Sponsorship for 2025 and 2026 could not be confirmed either way. An unconfirmed year is not a current parade check.
  • Corporate Equality Index is 0. Nintendo of America is not rated on the HRC index.
  • Left policies is 0. No corporate PAC, and no federal contribution record in the file.
  • CEO Action is 0. No pledge found.

Add those and you get 45. Inward-facing HR, a confirmed 2024 parade sponsorship, and no US electoral footprint. That is the woke band. It is not extremely woke. It is not a pass.

Where the files actually split

Electronic Arts does not have a separate sub-score row beside the 80. Inventing one would be a fake receipt. The index is the gap: EA held a perfect 100 and the Equality 100 Award in 2026 and did not exit. Nintendo is not rated. That is most of the distance between 80 and 45. Pride is in EA's products and in Nintendo's 2024 parade record, with later years unconfirmed. DEI programs are still running at both, language scrub or not. Politics ties at the PAC line. Neither has a corporate PAC in the file. CEO Action is a confirmed zero for Nintendo. The EA profile does not record a pledge, so this piece will not assign one. ESG is a report on both sides. Nintendo's 10 is the CSR report. EA's FY25 Impact Report took the diversity section out. A renamed report is not a program shutdown.

The rest of the publisher shelf does not rescue the cart. Take-Two Interactive is 55, woke, after renaming its DEI disclosure to Community and Engagement in 2025 and dropping its only LGBTQ-specific accolade. Ubisoft is 45, the same number as Nintendo, and the profile calls it one of the most vocally DEI-forward publishers in gaming, with no sign of the rollback seen at US firms. Same band. Different paperwork.

Verdict

Nintendo is less woke than Electronic Arts. 45 against 80. The distance is the index EA stayed in, plus product-level Pride content the file still counts. Nintendo's Pride and DEI points are real. Its political points are zero. 45 still means woke.

If you are walking away from EA's catalog, walk because the company closed a studio and canceled the next Mass Effect, and because 80 was already the score. Do not walk thinking the other household name is clean. It is the lower number on this pair. PlayStation at 90 and Xbox at 80 are not the exit either. Read the scores before you read the view count. The 954.5K post out-views the news card. Outrage is not the receipt. The dispute card, 101 replies, 255 reposts, 4,002 likes, 36.5K views, does not get a finished sentence or a winner.
