Is Pizza Hut woke? The published file says 65 out of 100. The stored label is woke. Yum closed the sale to LongRange Capital on September 1, 2026. The number on the page did not move with the deed.
The sale is on the file. A reset is not.
The writeup records two corporate facts and stops. The transaction closed September 1, 2026. CEO Aaron Powell resigned at the close. That is the event. It is not a rescore. Nothing in the file describes what LongRange Capital kept, renamed, or cut after it took the keys. Shoppers who heard "sold" and decided the politics got wiped are ahead of the receipt. Until this row is rebuilt for the buyer, the score you can quote is still the Yum-era 65.
Sixty-five is six lines, not a mood
Same six criteria as every other published brand. Here is what this writeup actually awards, and what it refuses.
- ESG, 10 of 10. The points sit on Yum's 2024 Global Citizenship and Sustainability Report, under the Good Growth strategy. That is a parent document from before the sale. It is still the citation.
- DEI, 10 of 10. Pizza Hut's own post committed to a Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and a Mosaic employee group. Yum's 2024 report still cites Unlocking Opportunity, more than 350,000 people reached, and a senior-leadership gender-parity goal by 2030. The file is not claiming a quiet rename. It is claiming the program was still being described as the job.
- HRC Corporate Equality Index, 25 of 25. The 2025 CEI appendix lists Yum Brands Inc. at 100. The 2023 column on that same line was 55. The live 2026 HRC page marks that 100 unverified, because Yum did not submit a 2026 survey. A 2025 perfect score and a 2026 unverified mark are not the same receipt. Do not upgrade the second into a fresh Equality 100.
- CEO Action, 20 of 20. A Yum CEO letter on the $100 million Unlocking Opportunity initiative is still posted on ceoaction.com.
- Pride, 0 of 25. No verified Pizza Hut parade sponsorship or product line.
- Political giving, 0 of 10. Yum's PAC in 2023-2024 ran 45.22 percent Democrat and 43.48 percent Republican. A split, not a machine. The file did not dress it up.
Add it: 10 + 10 + 25 + 20 + 0 + 0 = 65. Full points on the report, the DEI post, the index listing, and the CEO pledge. Zero on Pride sponsorship and on partisan giving. A woke score with two criteria blank. The zeros are part of the receipt.
Do not paste Papa John's 100 onto this chain
Papa John's is a different company. The file scores it 70, woke, published. It earned a verified perfect 100 on the 2026 HRC index, in a year when Fortune 500 participation collapsed and 534 companies earned Equality 100. It did not rename the DEI page. The careers site still titles it Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and calls the strategy a top priority. In 2022 it became the first major U.S. pizza chain to tie executive and team-member bonuses to ESG priorities that explicitly include DEI. Political giving on that file is 0. CEO Action on that file is 0. Pride is where Papa John's takes the 25 that Pizza Hut does not. That is why 70 and 65 are not the same hat worn twice.
Papa John's is not the woke-free swap. It scores higher. One submitted a 2026 survey and aced it. The other's parent skipped the 2026 survey, and the 100 on its line is the 2025 appendix, marked unverified for the current year.
Taco Bell is still Yum. Pizza Hut is not.
Taco Bell also scores 65. Do not merge the cards. Taco Bell was not sold on September 1. At Yum's May 2025 annual meeting, shareholders rejected an anti-DEI proposal about 99 to 1, and the company said the commitment remained unchanged. Yum scored 100 on the 2025 index. Taco Bell hosted in-store Drag Brunch events in 2022. Its PAC tilts modestly Republican. Same total, different receipt. A pizza-chain sale does not rewrite the taco chain, and the taco chain's shareholder vote does not belong on the pizza box.
A perfect index score is one dial
Wendy's is the clean split. The file scores it 55. It holds a confirmed 2026 Equality 100. Its 2025 change was a title, Chief DEI Officer renamed Chief Culture and Inclusion Officer, not a deletion. The PAC leans Republican, about 69 percent. A perfect index mark did not make Wendy's a 100 here, because the other lines did not max out. Index participation is one of six. Pizza Hut's 25 points are the 2025 Yum listing, with 2026 marked unverified because no survey went in. Do not promote that note into Equality 100 because Wendy's has one, or because Papa John's has one.
No published national pizza chain sits at a low score
If the question is which national pizza name on this site is the woke-free pick, the file does not have one. Domino's is not a published row, so it does not get a number here. The other published pizza names are local shops. A single-city counter is not a national substitute, and this page will not pretend it is.
For a published national counter, leave the pizza aisle and use the Non-Woke Fast Food Chain brands page, or the wider Non-Woke Food and Beverage brands list. In-N-Out Burger scores 0, not woke: no ESG report meeting the threshold, no DEI program, no Pride sponsorship, no HRC participation, no CEO Action pledge. Culver's scores 0 on that same empty set. Raising Cane's scores 5, not woke, a private founder-controlled chain with no formal ESG report, no Pride campaign, and no index rating. Whataburger scores 15, mildly woke, and the only thing keeping it off zero is modest internal DEI plus standard equal-employment language. It runs no Pride sponsorship and joins no index.
Those four are not pizza. A shelf whose only published national pizza scores are 65 and 70 does not have a clean national out. Borrowing a chicken chain to invent one would be a different piece.
What to quote tonight
Quote 65. Quote September 1, 2026. Quote the unverified 2026 index mark. Quote the two zeros. Link the brand page if you want the writeup, not a vibe.
Do not invent a dollar figure for the sale. The file does not print one. Do not invent a LongRange Capital DEI policy. The file does not print one. Do not paste Taco Bell's 99-to-1 vote onto Pizza Hut. Do not paste Papa John's verified 2026 Equality 100 onto a parent that skipped the 2026 survey. And do not treat 65 as an order to yell at the person at the counter. The score is a company record. The cashier did not write the Yum sustainability report.
The chain changed owners. The published score did not get a new interview. Until it does, "they fixed it when they sold" is a guess. The receipt on the page is still 65.
