Is Disney Woke in 2026? The File Still Says 80.

By BuyWokeFree Editorial

The score did not follow the press release

Ask whether Walt Disney is woke in 2026 and the first answer you get is a renamed program. The published file does not grade the press release. It grades the record. Walt Disney scores 80 out of 100, labeled extremely woke. A February 2025 rebrand took the old name off the door. It did not take the points off the score.

That 80 is the whole argument. If the company had exited the machinery this site measures, the number would have moved. It has not. Quieter ads are not a new score.

Six lines, not a mood

BuyWokeFree scores six dimensions. Disney's sheet, dated March 14, 2026, reads like this:

  • ESG reporting: 10. Annual Sustainability and Social Impact Reports, a net-zero greenhouse-gas pledge for 2050, and park-and-cruise work on renewable energy and water use. The reports sit at impact.disney.com.
  • DEI programs: 10. Reimagine Tomorrow launched in 2021 with a stated aim that half of characters in scripted content would come from underrepresented groups, plus a large set of employee diversity groups. In 2025 the score file records a rebrand, DEI language pulled from filings, and the executive pay factor once called Diversity and Inclusion swapped for Talent Strategy. Full points stayed. The institutional history is what this line measures.
  • Pride and LGBTQ advocacy: 25. The file records Pride sponsorships and marches since the late 1990s, Disneyland Paris Pride in 2019, Disneyland After Dark: Pride Nite on the 2026 park calendar, and Pride merchandise profits directed to GLSEN, PFLAG, and the Trevor Project.
  • HRC Corporate Equality Index: 25. A perfect 100 every year since 2007. The file's reading of HRC's own listing is a perfect 100 on the 2026 index as well.
  • Left-leaning political giving: 10. Full points, with a split that is easy to misquote. The dollars are below. Do not collapse them into one corporate check.
  • CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion: 0. No confirmed signature from Bob Iger or Bob Chapek. That zero is why the total is 80 and not 100.

Add the lines: 10 + 10 + 25 + 25 + 10 + 0 = 80. Missing the pledge did not make Disney mildly woke. The other five lines are full.

What Axios reported in February 2025

In February 2025, Axios reported that Disney retired the Reimagine Tomorrow initiative, rebranded its employee resource groups, and replaced the Diversity and Inclusion factor in executive compensation with a broader Talent Strategy metric. The score file also records that rebrand under the name MyDisneyToday, and records DEI terminology coming out of SEC filings for the first time since 2019. Same episode. Two descriptions. Neither one is a score cut.

The National Legal and Policy Center called the changes largely cosmetic. That is their argument, not a second database. Our number holds for a narrower reason: the benefits and the benchmark this index measures were still on the books. At the 2025 annual meeting, as Variety reported and as this file records it, roughly 99% of shareholders rejected a proposal to drop the HRC benchmark. A rename that shareholders refuse to unwind is a label change with a vote attached. It is not an exit.

Pride marketing is quieter than it was in 2023 and 2024. The file says that plainly. Quieter marketing is not a zero on a 25-point line. The file records Disneyland After Dark: Pride Nite on the 2026 park calendar, and it records merchandise profits directed to those three groups. A softer ad buy is not a closed program. Treat it as a softer ad buy.

The political dollars, split the way the file splits them

Do not repeat "Disney gave $3.55 million to Democrats" as if the treasury wrote one check. The file's 2024-cycle reading is tighter than that slogan. Disney-affiliated federal giving totaled roughly $3.55 million. About 92.9% of that came from individual employees, not the corporate treasury. The organization itself is recorded at roughly $253,500. The employee-led totals in that file are topped by Kamala Harris at about $973,700, the DNC at about $378,200, and the DCCC at about $173,200.

A separate, older line is the 2021 PAC and affiliate split: $1.6 million of $1.8 million to Democrats, against about $100,000 to Republicans. That is a different year and a different pot. Both lines are why the political dimension scores 10. Neither line is a license to invent a fresh dollar figure for late 2026. Quote the year with the number, or do not quote the number.

The Florida fight is history. The 80 is current.

The file records that Disney publicly opposed Florida's Parental Rights in Education law in 2022, and that the fight with Gov. Ron DeSantis ended in a 2024 settlement. That episode is why the brand became a boycott mascot. It is not why the 2026 number is 80. The 2026 number is the CEI streak, the Pride line, the DEI history, the ESG reports, and the giving split above. A settled statehouse fight does not rewrite a workplace index.

In September 2025, ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! and reversed within days, Fortune reported. The boycott calls that week came from the left. The score did not move for that episode either. A suspension and a reversal are a programming decision. They are not a scored rollback, and they are not a reason to aim the argument at a host. The company made the call. The file kept the 80.

Do not swap Disney for a division, or for Sony

ESPN is a published row of its own, and it also scores 80, extremely woke. The file treats Disney corporate policy as ESPN policy. Checking the sports brand and assuming the parent is unscored will waste the afternoon. They are two pages and one record. Do not paste the ESPN number onto a different company, and do not treat a loud ESPN segment as a new Disney score. The parent page is the one that carries the six-line sheet.

Sony is the other household 80 in this entertainment file: sustainability reports, division-level DEI, Pride sponsorships including Tokyo Pride and San Diego Pride, and a perfect HRC mark, with no confirmed CEO Action signature. That is a different company. It is here so the Disney 80 is not mistaken for a one-off. Same band. Separate receipt.

The parent company is mapped to Entertainment, Streaming Media and Digital Content, Television Broadcasting and Production, and Film Production and Distribution. Those category pages are the map. The brand page is the receipt. If a shopping decision is the actual question, start there instead of a headline from 2022.

Shop the file, not the adjective

A company can retire a slogan and keep the index. Disney did the first part in February 2025. The second part is why the published score is still 80. Parks, the studio, and the bundle are the same parent on this sheet. If you are deciding what stays in the house, start with that number and the six lines under it. The press release is optional. The file is not.
